Get an instant £3,750 discount on the Ford Puma - the first car to get the full EV Grant

The UK Government's EV Grant is now officially live, marking a significant turning point for electric vehicle adoption. After the previous Plug-in Car Grant was scrapped in 2022, this new £650 million scheme offers drivers discounts of up to £3,750 on eligible electric vehicles priced under £37,000.

This new government initiative is a game-changer for anyone considering the switch to electric. With electric vehicle sales currently sitting at around 21.6%, the government needs ways to reach its ambitious 28% target for 2025. These grants are designed to bridge that gap by making EVs more financially attractive, especially as we approach the 2030 ban on new petrol and diesel car sales.

What makes this different from before?
Unlike the old grant system, this new scheme has stricter environmental criteria. EVs manufactured in regions with carbon-intensive energy grids may not qualify, which is why many of the Chinese manufacturers don’t qualify for the grant. This gives European manufacturers a significant competitive advantage, as their vehicles are more likely to meet the sustainability requirements.

The grants also work seamlessly with salary sacrifice schemes to deliver unmatched savings. Higher-rate taxpayers particularly benefit from this combination, stacking government discounts with substantial tax advantages.

Ford Puma Gen-E: First to Qualify for the Full Grant

The Ford Puma Gen-E stands out as one of the first to receive the maximum £3,750 grant, making it an exceptional value proposition for drivers.

Before £/Month: £295/month
After £/Month: £255/month
Monthly saving: £40 (13.6% reduction)

The Ford Puma Gen-E brings the brand’s popular compact SUV into the electric era, combining trusted build quality with a genuinely engaging drive. It’s also one of the first cars to qualify for the full EV grant, making it far more accessible. When you add in the extra savings from salary sacrifice, the monthly costs become even more attractive, with loveelectric drivers saving an average of £306 per month.

As GreenCarGuide’s review highlights, the Puma Gen-E takes everything drivers value about the petrol model and enhances it with an electric drivetrain that still delivers a sporty driving experience. In short, it’s the familiar Puma made better for the future.

Renault 5 E-Tech

After £/Month:

While these models receive the £1,500 grant (rather than the full £3,750), they still deliver meaningful monthly savings that make electric driving more accessible.

How This Works in Practice

Will I see the discount in the loveelectric app?
Yes, the grant discount is automatically applied to eligible vehicles in our system. You'll see the reduced price when browsing available cars, so there's no need to calculate savings yourself.

Does this stack with salary sacrifice benefits?
Absolutely. The government grants work alongside salary sacrifice tax advantages, creating even greater monthly savings. Higher-rate taxpayers particularly benefit from this combination.

Are all these models available now?
Yes.
The loveelectric app shows real-time availability, so you can see exactly which configurations are ready for immediate delivery.

Next Steps: Check Your Eligibility

These grants make electric driving more accessible than ever, especially when combined with salary sacrifice savings. Whether you're drawn to the Puma Gen-E's versatility, the Renault 5's city credentials, or any of the other eligible models, now is an excellent time to make the switch.
